Connect
When we come into the classroom, we are communicating with children at their level and within their comfort zone. This method helps us achieve a deeper level of connection.
Engage
We believe children learn best when they don't know their learning at all. We employ a variety of strategies to help kids get involved and have fun with the lesson.
Inform
The Trooper Bear program strives to convey our message of compassion and acceptance in a way that truly leaves a lasting impression.
What we do
Discussing Disabilities in the Classroom
With thoughtful and engaging instruction we can turn any classroom into a polite and courteous Trooper Bear Classroom!
When children enter school it may be their first experience observing or interacting with people with many types of disabilities. Many children will be exposed to children in wheelchairs or others with missing limbs or disfigurements. Some may have learning disabilities, or be Autistic children and there may be other conditions that create an uncomfortable and new situation. The goal of the Trooper Bear Program is to put this topic front and center and have an enjoyable, entertaining discussion about interacting with people with disabilities.
Teaching Beneficial Life Skills
The Trooper Bear Program addresses a variety of issues. The program includes visual aids including a stuffed Trooper Bear in a small wheelchair. Many teachers use this as a reward, allowing students to push Trooper Bear for a walk, if they have done something good and the teacher wants to reward them. The program includes 8 coloring books covering a variety of topics. Each child gets a small take-home Trooper Bear after the introductory program. Each child gets a Trooper Bear badge to wear, and a Certificate of Completion when they have finished the course at the end of the year.
